About Nancy Edwards

Nancy Edwards Nancy Edwards, Artist and Educator

Since a child, Nancy has made art a daily part of her life. She has taken various classes at institutions including Rutgers, RVCC, Pratt, DuCret School of Art and the Contemporary Art Center. In addition, she has had various mentors help her to refine her skills. In high school, she began working as a graphic artist, leading her to own her own printing and advertising agency. As a licensed counselor and artist, her passion for working with people directed her to teach art at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ, Adolescent Day Treatment Program for 18 years. It was here she gained an understanding of the joy and healing art brings, as well as a true avenue for self-expression. In addition, she coordinated and taught a recreation art program for over 200 students each winter.

Nancy is skilled in drawing and painting. She works in water, acrylic and oil paints, with watercolor being her favorite. She has a passion for nature and animals and enjoys photographing them to use in her work. She loves painting portraits of animals, flowers and nature scenes. But her main passion is teaching!

Nancy has exhibited in various exhibits, including at Lincoln Center in NYC. As part of “The Ocean Show” through the Visual Arts League, a piece of her work traveled around the world. Her most recent accomplishment is the completion of two large oil paintings for Mary, Mother of God Catholic Church - “Precious Child” and “The Risen Christ”. Each are 4’x6’ oil paintings, which sit at each side of the church alter.

Nancy prides herself in using art in a collaborative manner to educate about health issues. She is the originator of the Nationwide “Hands of Hope Project”, which engaged participants throughout the world, teaching people about the dangers of tobacco use. She developed the Red Ribbon CD Contest, teaching students through drawing and writing song titles about the dangers of drug use. In years past, the Red Ribbon Window Art Project was displayed on storefronts of Hillsborough, NJ. Her next endeavor is to work with the Cancer Coalition in teaching about sun exposure through a project called RAYS.
